Presenter: Dr. Shona Vas
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the variables relevant for selecting internship sites that are a good fit and range in competitiveness
- Describe the key components involved in writing effective internship essays
- List at least three questions that will be asked during the interview process and three questions to ask of a training program
About the Presenter:
Dr. Vas is a board-certified psychologist licensed in Illinois and Indiana and credentialed through PSY-PACT. She is a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Chicago where she has served as the Director of Psychology Training, and specifically the Director of the Psychology Internship Program for the past 15 years.
Dr. Vas has just completed 2 terms on the APPIC Board of Directors including 3 years as Chair and one year as past Chair. She also served as the Chair of the Council of Training Councils (CCTC). Dr. Vas has co-authored publications regarding internship training, competency-based supervision, and socially-responsive evaluation of trainees.
She actively presents on similar topics and is committed to supporting the professional development of aspiring health service psychologists.
